The historical Chinese drama Royal Betrothal is now available in the Viki catalog. Starring Wu Jinyan and Chen Zheyuan, the production officially premiered on July 28, 2026, on Hunan TV and Mango TV. According to data released by the platforms, the series surpassed 300 million verified views as of August 4.
Based on the novel of the same name by author Xing Yanyan, the story follows Meng Tinghui (Wu Jinyan), a young orphan determined to secure a position in the civil service through the imperial examinations. Along the way, she meets Emperor Ying Gua (Chen Zheyuan), who travels throughout the kingdom in disguise while investigating corruption cases. Together, they begin taking on local criminals in Shazhou.
When Tinghui arrives in the capital to take the examination, she is falsely accused of cheating but manages to prove her innocence through her intelligence and quick thinking. Recognizing her abilities, the emperor appoints her to an administrative position at Cha Wen Yuan. From that point forward, she begins investigating illegal schemes, including a conspiracy by the Blood Moon Society to restore an ancient dynasty. Amid political conflicts and efforts to stabilize the government, their partnership gradually develops into a romantic relationship.
The cast of Royal Betrothal also includes Zhang Nan as Shen Zhili, an employee at Cha Wen Yuan who overcomes being manipulated in political power struggles and learns to assert her independence. Zhao Zhaoyi plays Yan Fuzhi, Tinghui’s childhood friend and the manager of a restaurant that serves as an intelligence-gathering hub. Kuo Pin-chao plays Gu Qin, the chancellor who is publicly regarded as a virtuous prime minister, while Liang Yongqi portrays Yin Qing, the observant and perceptive official responsible for palace medicine.
The series is directed by Zhang Yanjie, with art direction by Lü Haojiji. Distributed by Kaichang Pictures, the drama consists of 32 episodes, each running for approximately 45 minutes.
