Choi Jeong-yo is alive — but he is no longer the pianist Kang Pi-o remembers. Episode 6 of Four Hands, Two Sonatas brings him back after nine years as Luca Domenico, a conductor with a new name and an unexplained past.
Pi-o, meanwhile, has become a celebrated soloist without finding a way past his friend’s disappearance. The time jump also reshapes Jae-in’s career and the lives of Pi-o’s parents. Here are the five biggest changes.

1. Jeong-yo returns as Luca Domenico
Kidnapped before a competition, Choi Jeong-yo vanishes for nine years. When he finally resurfaces, the pianist everyone believed dead is conducting under the name Luca Domenico. Pi-o spots him at the International Conducting Brno 2026 competition. His friend is alive, but the years between them remain unexplained.
2. Pi-o becomes famous, but cannot move on
Kang Pi-o’s breakthrough comes after he wins a major competition using Jeong-yo’s score. Nine years later, solo recitals take him around the world. The career he wanted is finally his; peace of mind is not. He keeps looking for news of Jeong-yo, unable to put his disappearance behind him.
3. Jae-in becomes Pi-o’s manager
Hong Jae-in now works behind the scenes, managing Pi-o’s concerts and career. Spending so much time together brings her longstanding feelings into the open. Pi-o remains emotionally guarded, but agrees to give their relationship a chance. For him, Jae-in is the person he trusts most.
4. Ji-hye gains influence as suspicions grow
Kang Ji-hye has moved into a position of authority in the NCAPF’s music division, where she recruits and develops young talent. As her influence grows, questions emerge about whether she played a part in Jeong-yo’s kidnapping. Those suspicions are not proof of her involvement.
5. Seung-woon retreats from the stage
Jeong-yo’s disappearance also changes the life of his piano mentor, Kang Seung-woon. He steps away from performing and spends his days at home tending plants. His separation from Yoon Seon-ju deepens that isolation: while Pi-o travels the world, Seung-woon withdraws from it.
For nine years, Pi-o wanted to know whether his friend was still alive. Seeing Luca Domenico answers that question, but opens a harder one: what happened to Jeong-yo, and why has he returned as someone else?
