Four Hands, Two Sonatas is Netflix’s new musical K-drama, following three young people brought together by classical music as friendship, rivalry, and romantic feelings intertwine at an arts school. The series stars Song Kang, Lee Jun Young, and Jang Gyuri.
The story begins when Kang Bi-o, a pianist accustomed to winning, meets Choi Jeong Yo, a talented musician who walked away from the piano after a difficult childhood. Hong Jae-in, a violist with exceptionally sensitive hearing, completes the trio, setting the stage for a relationship in which competition gradually evolves into a deeper connection.
The title refers to the technique in which two people play the same piano together. In the story, the expression also reflects the bond between the two pianists, who begin influencing each other’s paths as they try to discover what it means to turn their talent into a profession.
Who’s Who in Four Hands, Two Sonatas?
The main cast brings together two pianists whose lives have taken very different paths and a musician who can hear nuances others may miss. Meet the drama’s central characters:
Song Kang as Kang Bi-o
Kang Bi-o is a piano prodigy who has grown accustomed to taking first place in both his studies and performances. His image as the perfect student begins to crack when he meets a rival capable of challenging not only his technique, but also the confidence he has built around music. The character is played by Song Kang, known for productions such as Love Alarm, Nevertheless, and Sweet Home.
Lee Jun Young as Choi Jeong Yo
Choi Jeong Yo also possesses extraordinary talent as a pianist, but his path has been very different from that of his rival. After giving up music because of a difficult childhood, he begins reconnecting with the instrument after recalling one of Bi-o’s performances. Jeong Yo’s arrival at the arts school transforms the rivalry between the two into a relationship shaped by friendship, tension, and personal growth. Lee Jun Young takes on the role after standing out in titles such as Mask Girl, Melo Movie, and When Life Gives You Tangerines.
Jang Gyuri as Hong Jae-in
Hong Jae-in is a viola student who completes the story’s central trio. She has exceptionally sensitive hearing and searches for music capable of genuinely stirring her emotions. Jae-in has admired Bi-o’s playing since childhood, but her perspective on music—and her own feelings—begins to change when she hears Jeong Yo play the piano. Jang Gyuri takes on the role; the actress is also known for projects such as Cheer Up and The Player 2.
