The Japanese drama series “S&X” premieres worldwide exclusively on Netflix on August 20, 2026. Starring actor Kento Nakajima, the series is adapted from Kisei Tada’s manga and uses a sex therapy clinic as its setting to explore relationships, intimacy, and vulnerability.
What Is S&X About?
The story follows Ichito Shimotori, a psychiatrist who works as a sex therapist. At his clinic, he treats patients seeking help with erectile dysfunction, sex addiction, sexless relationships, and trauma. Despite the respect and empathy he shows his patients, Ichito struggles with his own pain and emotional barriers that prevent him from fully embracing intimacy.
The story takes a new turn when the psychiatrist reunites with Yumi Ichinose (Yuko Araki), his first love from school. Yumi works as a television presenter but faces career frustrations and feels trapped by the “pure” image the public expects her to maintain. Their reunion rekindles old feelings, but their relationship is complicated by mutual insecurities and a serious secret Ichito has been keeping.

Production and Adaptation
“S&X” is based on the manga “S&X: The Confession of Therapist Ichito Shimotori,” published in Kodansha’s Morning magazine. The television series was jointly developed and produced by Netflix and production company Office Shirous.
Shogo Kusano directs, while Tomoko Yoshida serves as head writer, joined by Ruriko Matsushima, Takumi Baba, and Kusano himself on the writing team.
