The second season of the K-drama “A Shop for Killers” premieres this Wednesday on Disney+. The continuation of the series resumes the narrative after the events of the first season, answering pending questions and introducing new cast members led by Lee Dong-wook and Kim Hye-jun.
About the new season
The first season ended with the revelation that Jeong Jin-man (Lee Dong-wook), who was responsible for running an arms trade business for criminals, was alive. According to director Lee Kwon, the new phase focuses on a “counterattack”. The narrative shifts away from focusing solely on the survival of college student Jeong Ji-an (Kim Hye-jun) to focus on a direct response to the threats.
The story of the new season is no longer a direct adaptation of the novel “The Killer’s Shopping Mall” written by Kang Ji-young, but instead expands the series’ universe to explore the Babylon organization. The new episodes will also highlight the interactions and conflicts between Ji-an and Jin-man in the present timeline.
Cast and characters
The original cast returns for the second season, joined by new additions who expand the scale of the plot’s criminal organization:
- Lee Dong-wook as Jeong Jin-man: Returns to the forefront of the story, interacting directly with his niece.
- Kim Hye-jun as Jeong Ji-an: The protagonist takes a more active stance, taking direct action to protect those around her instead of just focusing on her survival.
- Jo Han-sun as Bale: The character now acts with a focus on seeking revenge against Jin-man.
- Okada Masaki as J: A new character in the plot, he is an assassin described as having a childish personality.
- Hyunri as Q: A new cast member. Preparing for the character required the actress to gain muscle mass.
- Jung Yun-ha as Kusanagi: Joins the series playing a strategist for the organization.
The series’ action sequences will continue to feature actors Geum Hannah and Kim Min, bringing different fighting styles.
